Suter Meet in Byron, Michigan

Thanks to the Suter family and all who participated in this meet. We are already looking forward to next year

Here's the meet summary by host Mark Suter:

Attendance
The sign-in sheets reflected 237 registered attendees... just 23 below our all-time high. This was surprising considering the poor weather... it rained lightly all morning and then cleared up. The headcount was pretty accurate until late in the meet when registration was halted because we felt there would be no more arrivals. However, there were a few late arrivals and some of them may have slipped in without getting them to sign a registration sheet.

The basic registration process used was to ask everyone in each vehicle to register before they could park. While that does slow down the arrivals of attendees a bit, it is, by far, the best and easiest registration process used to date. At least one early arrival slipped in without registering. I remembered seeing her and happened to notice that she wasn't on the registration sheets. I also remembered seeing one late arrival that hadn't registered. I added both of those names to one of the registration sheets.

One notable attendee at the meet was Jay Walls, the current AOMCI President. He said a few words and asked members to be sure to vote in the up-coming AOMCI election. Copies of all attendee registration sheets will be provided to co-sponsoring Great Lakes Chapter (GLC) and the Wolverine Chapter (WC) Presidents.

My thanks to all attendees for making this a huge event

Finances
The lunch donations totaled $825 ($5 per person for 165 people). That was the only source of income.
Expenses were as follows (copies of all receipts will be provided to the WC and GLC Treasurers):
A check in the amount of $7.23 will be sent to each of the sponsoring chapters. While we did wind up in the black, it wasn't by much so the Byron Swap Meet food donation amount will likely be raised to $6 per person next year to hopefully cover the ever-rising costs and preclude losing money.

Peoples' Choice Show-motor Competition

Show motor entries were way down this year... probably because of the rain. Only 25 motors were registered but the collective display was still a great show. My sincerest thanks go out to all those that brought out interesting and great looking motors in spite of the rain. The awards were provided by the GLC this year and Chapter President, Joe Brincat and his team (Edna and Clark Gordon) tallied the voting results.

These results can be found under the appropriate image in the Meet_Results category.

Meet Set-up, Execution and Clean-up
My sincerest thanks go out to the following people for helping to prepare for this meet and helping to make it happen... the meet wouldn't have happened without all of your hard work: Elaine Suter, Jody Suter, George Hill, Cheryl Cobb, Terry Kamensky, Cara Fraser, Bill Bowers, Shirley Summers and Bruce Summers.

There also were many others that donated food, helped serve lunch and helped put away tables and chairs after the meet was over. Your food donations and help were very much appreciated and definitely helped improve the quality of the meet and minimize the work left for Elaine and I to do after everyone else was gone. My thanks to all of you as well

The "Meet Operations Team" received a big surprise... a Certificate of Appreciation from the GLC for putting on this event. It was an honor to receive that and was much appreciated by all of the team members. The certificate will be proudly displayed in the museum. Each team member also received a Michigan lottery ticket as a bonus... and I believe one ticket won a one dollar prize.

Left-over Food Donation
We had cooked for 200 people so there was some food left over. That was donated to a local (Byron address) home for dependent senior citizens called "The Serenity House". They were absolutely delighted to receive it and we were pleased to be able to put these leftovers to such a good use.

Pictures
There were lots of pictures taken at this meet. Those taken by Jim Wildgen of the Wolverine Chapter will be posted on the Wolverine Chapter website (there is a link to this site on the AOMCI website under "local chapters"). As done in prior years, some of the pics taken by my daughter (Jody) and George Hill will be posted on the "quincylooperracing.us" website. I know I really appreciate those pictures because

I am far too busy during the meet to see everything that is happened. My thanks to the photographers

Wrap-up
It's all over for another year and now Elaine and I can relax. I am providing copies of this report to the GLC and WC Newsletter Editors for inclusion in their next newsletters. God willing, we'll do it again on October 18th, 2014 so please get that date on your social calendars... we sure hope to see you then.
