Wolverine Chapter Bear Lake Meet in North Muskegon, Michigan on
Saturday August 16th, 2025
In the words of president Bill Shattuck: What an awesome meet we had today at Horton Park commemorating the impact Roger Dykehouse had on our chapter members over the years. We had at least 31 attendees and many, many outboards that had passed from Roger's hands into ours. The stories behind those motors and the circumstances around we attendees becoming their caretakers were extremely touching, funny, and told the story of the kind of both caring and mischievous man Roger was. I have to admit I did not expect so many motors and stories, even some from people who could not attend but sent pictures and stories. I love all our meets but this one was one I will never forget. I want to give my personal thanks to every one of you. We have such a great group of members and their families. The way we respect, care about, and support one another is something pretty special and not to be taken for granted. What a great group of people!
P.S. In the 'How Slow Can It Go' contest it is only fitting that our Mercury fanatic (Jim Wildgen) won with Jason Pell's Champion, which was specially modified and sold to Jason by Roger Dykehouse. It was as if Roger was watching and wanted to make sure we remembered his slogan from his days racing Champion Hot Rods over the water: 'Mercury, the Breakfast of Champions'.
